with the recent election of Pope Benedict XVI there has been a massive increase of pope related domain names registered.

These domain names have mostly been registered by domain name speculators in an attempt to sell them on to other registerants.

Papal related domain names are already advertised on eBay with prices ranging one dollar up to $100,000.

It is highly unlikely that the Vatican for example would buy a domain name from the speculators as they have the own .va Internet address already. other religious groups such a small churches etc would not have the money to pay for one of these domains.

Register U said in a statement today that they will not be buying or selling any papal related domain names.

Managing director Michael Russotti stated that we believe that the buying and selling of papal domain names is in incredibly bad taste and we will not take part in it.
